It's not a secret that I love Loghain, but it kind of surprises me that others DON'T love him. He is fantastic. How can you not bring him with you everywhere you go once you can? How is he not the star of a thousand DLCs?
And how can he not have more friends in game? HOW?
For real though, the realization made me sad.
So... How was the Fade?
@Deonis: I hate everything.
I like Loghain too. Hell even before reading the books I found him interesting. So make it four fans :D
Make it five fans lol. In my first playthrough I left Loghain alive because I thought Riordan made a lot of sense with his reasoning. Then after i had a chance to interact with Loghain I warmed up to his character haha
@Nelira: Pretty much this ^
@Nelira: And when Riordan reveals why Grey Wardens are necessary, I thought that maybe if Loghain knew why they are important, then perhaps he may had a better opinion of them, and may have reconsidered the betrayal. But perhaps is a flimsy reason, and it's what I thought at the moment.
I love that Hawke's friends with him though. After everything she still has no qualms whatsoever and will be friends with pretty much anyone who is prepared to put up with her.
*Raises hand* I like him too (also Anora, who is similarly unloved).
Loghain is a terrible person.
(Origins Spoilers) I didn't like Loghain until I finally added him to my party in Origins while running through with an 'evil' character. I saved going back to Ostagar (the DLC) until I got him and immediately warmed up to him afterward (since it was obvious that he did both feel he was in the right, but felt guilty for what had happened, regardless). Nowadays I play through Origins, tell Alistair to fuck off, and side with my grumpy guy in all regards.
Have you ever read the Bioware Novel, A Stolen Throne? Young Loghain is one of the main characters, and it gave me a lot of perspective into his mindset.
I also like him for very similar reasons that many have already mentioned. Also, there's something to characters that oppose you, I suppose. The "opposites attract" rule in a lighter form maybe. He's great to argue with.
Haha a lot of Loghains fans are coming out of the woodworks for this one XD
@MetalBox: Honestly I don't really understand why they keep the whole "really only a Warden can defeat an Archdemon beacause..." a secret in the first place. Considering how rare an actual Blight is it wouldn't be that big a deterrent anyway.
@ScreamingVikin: Pretty sure they met at Failed Heroes Anonymous or something.
@Norgrath: Anora totally grew on me the second round, when she wasn't in the way to my (failed) climb to power.
@TheGYouLoveToHate: Sure. Still love him.
@iamOne: That awkward moment when you look at your world states and realize that Loghain lives in the majority of them... :I
@Kat: I have! Even made a super quick comic about it a while back (aaaand then Gaider commented on it on tumblr and was a really good sport and I DIED OF SHAME BECAUSE IT WAS SO SLOPPILY MADE) I didn't feel that I really learned anything new about Loghain in the book though, on account of being ... err... very keen on investigating all the conversation options. Also, old grumpy Loghain is infinitely better than young rash Loghain as far as I am concerned.
@zenat the reason he probably doesn't have much friends in warden as they probably blame him for the death of much of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden as they couldn't blame the good King Cailan for being a idiot trying to be a hero. So that is most likely why the Hero of Ferelden is his only freind
I agree with everyone else, I thought that once you save him in Origins everyone was cool with it. I didn't expect Alistair to leave though. I'm sure he knows people but by that time he's close to only the Warden but even he's away. I saved him because I thought he could still be of use, I mean the Warden doesn't know jack compared to Loghain about being a general, I didn't regret since he just ended up being an absolute bro that I managed to save him in the Fade the first time.
@zenat: Yeah, I agree on both accounts. But still, even if it influences a 1% inside the mind of a strategist to overcome his hostility (towards orlesians, and later wardens), and think on a bigger picture...
Reporting that I and at least 4 of my 6 DA-playing friends are Loghain's fans too :D
I wouldn't mind Loghain on my side. But I'd like to keep him and Alistair. Not to mention, from the start I always kept thinking that he'd start frothing out the mouth at some point and in a rather bemusingly insane elderly moment think that the Warden and whoever they may be bumping are his mother and an Orlesion.......I have an awful mindset I am aware but blame Garth Ennis for that one.
But still, would've been nice to have him as part of the gang, he could've taken a spot as Mabari hound number 2. The Grouchy One
I prefer the way his severed head looks on a pike.
