I thought I was being clever, alright? And then Dorian and Cassandra just ruin everything by being king and queen of the game (well, Dorian has to share with Krem, let's face it, but you know), while at the same time... being male-romance-only. Whyyyyyyyyy????
I genuinely started wangsting about it like 10 hours in. The first playthrough took me maybe 100 hours or so. 90% wangsting because I didn't play a man.
I know how you feel, I actually wanted my Inquisitor to romance Sera, but nope, female only >_<
No love for The Iron Bull? Well it's true that the quest guilty pleasures gives Cassandra an unfair advantage...
I was just as angsty when I found out I couldn't romance Cullen with my awesome female Qunari Inquisitor.... then I found out Dorian was only into men and much sadness was felt throughout the keep.
2:Sex with bull
3:Break up with bull
4: Romance Dorian
I made a female Qunari mage for my first playthrough. Spent the game sobbing because I couldn't romance Solas. Not that Josephine's romance isn't sweet and fun, but... yeah...
Then I made a guy. For Cassandra. Felt my heart shatter every time I had the option to flirt with Dorian (which was MANY TIMES) and I COULDN'T. On playthrough 3-5 now (I switch) because I can't decide if I'm the most desperate for Dorian, Solas, or Cullen romance.
Did I mention I have a thesis to write? :D
I find it unjust and unfair that females cannot romance Cassandra despite her obvious, massive, girl-crush on Hawke
My Inquisitor follows Cassandra around like a lost puppy and she doesn't even notice. The biggest injustice in the game however is that you can't romance Cole.
@Retroberrii: yes! I understand the concerns and difficulty Cole's romance would bring (I can't imagine he'd ever get to any less-than-innocent stage with the Inquisitor), but still... T____T
Cassandra is so amazing. I took her out of her role as sword and shield and made her two handed so I could keep and romance her with my male sword and shield char. Her soft side is adorable. And the quest to get Varric to finish a crappy romance novel for her....sooooo much win.
So, I've thought a great deal about this and I came up with a solution today. We need the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity from Baldur's Gate as an item drop in DAI! Could have saved me a lot of angst, since I sunk about 40 hours into the game before finding out my Inquisitor couldn't romance Dorian.
I romanced Cassandra, and regretted nothing.
Since no-one has, as of yet, mentioned Blackwall I would just like to say: I wasn't sure who I was going to romance when I started the game. I was by the time I'd finished recruiting him.
@warrion: So what? They did it with Sebastien. But thats not even required really. Hes a spirit, not a little kid. He knows what sex is, and hes basically a human boy with extras. Particularly if you side with Varric on his personal quest (which could be a requirement for the romance). I kinda wish I played on PC because Im sure in a month or two there will be a mod that allows this lol.
@Retroberrii: I'm not against you and I'm not claiming Cole is a child, I'm just saying I see why the devs would drop the option, since they would want to do it properly and in character. I, for myself, would have loved to have a romance with Cole, and like you I think it should be conditioned by siding with Varric on his quest. I probably didn't make myself clear; I meant "never getting to sex" during the events of the game, since his personal quest is tied to a main one and can come pretty late in gameplay; and you can hardly expect this particular couple to just jump in bed straight away like, say, Inky and Dorian. (Plus, yes, I think it would make an epic asexual romance. You know, branching out on the thought that becoming close to someone isn't necessarily tied to a tumble as a reward.) And idk about mods, these are a bit harder to work around than older Bioware stuff.
P.S.: I'm all for the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity. I have fond memories of equipping Khalid with it like a hundred times.
My Hawke is female -> Cassandra obviously has a crush on Hawke -> Cassandra clearly thinks Hawke is the only woman for her
Heterosexual romanceable guys in DA:I are so "meh" that I wish you could at least flirt with Samson.
@warrion sorry the 'child' thing wasnt directed at you lol. I brought it up because its the main argument against Cole as an LI. I do agree with you on everything else however.
@Damean: I am all for homosexual companions, but it is sad that you end up sitting there going "... I picked the wrong gender :(" for hours and hours haha
@Samalamb: Another playthrough... haha I am pretty sure you meant a bajillion more? :I
@Pepsik: Sadly Bull is really not my type, in so many ways :(
@Hevv: Josephine is nice though? But yeah, I feel you. Playing a lady qunari now, settled for Blackwall myself.
@Ziiopy: Plan has one flaw... you need to play a man for Dorian.
@warrion: Haha, I feel your pain, I really do XD
@Guest: It brought a tear to my eye, it is true :(
@Retroberrii: Personally pretty ok with not romanceing Cole. He has his cute moments but I kinda just want to pat him on the head and that's that? Ah well.
@triplezero: True! Where are the modders when you need them? (I know, I know... making proper eyebrow choices... it is a most important task too)
@Heheh: You mock my pain?! D<
@Norgrath: He was a close call first round, ended up making a qunari lady and going for him the second time around though. Bit too dramatic for my tastes but still.
@koriolanne: I think I can safely say that I speak for both Amare and myself when I say that there were a lot of fluffy oh noes feels all around concerning Samson for us.
I have romanced them all and I regret nothing.
What I would give to romance Cole!
I agree with all of you but even an innocent romance with Cole would be enough. But since I can't and I don't have internet at home to get the mods for it at home, I decided not to romance anybody with my Lavellen!
