I don’t know how many times I’ve reloaded Skyrim because of this (and several other games for that matter) all I know is, that they have been too many. There is no way I’m walking away from a chest without knowing what’s in it! Just saying!

Lol. I feel your pain. Worst is when the lock turns all but like half of a half a millimeter. Your like YES and then snap. Sooo many f5-f9 moments. (Quicksave- quickreload)

This is why I've always carried at least a few dozen of those things around.

And as always, the chest will be filled with 20 septims, a piece of junk and a junk weapon. -_-'

I've always wondered how actual lockpicks break faster then just the bobbypins you find in the Fallout games. Come on, they're supposed to be made for the job! Why are they worse!

Thankfully lockpicks are easy to find and buy. Plus constantly breaking your lockpicks on a Master lock is a good way to level up the skill.

Unbreakable Lockpick

@Amare: If you've ever beaten the Thieves' Guild questline, you'll remember that superawesome artifact that it turns out was stolen from Nocturnal, which serves as an unbreakable lockpick.

Now, it's made very clear that you're supposed to return that to Nocturnal's temple in exchange for new powers and Nocturnal no longer being very cross with the Guild over its theft, but frankly, none of these powers is worth trading in an unbreakable lockpick for. Good thing there's no time limit on that quest, because if I ever do hand in that artifact, it won't be for a while.

I agree and the expression of your dunmer is exactly how I react at times. Throughout skyrim, oblivion, amalur, me1, and eso, lockpicking is the bane of my existence, and what I hate most of all is that some lockpicking areas are not optional. Its like here have a treasure chest. You can't access it.

What is even more annoying is opening an annoydoor, and behind the annoydoor, the annoychest is also locked worse than the door.

And if you take lockpicking perks they make your character weaker and you die.
