So. I decided to replay the Mass Effect series. Despite the ending. Because I really wanted to do a 'black widow' run. Ie, everyone around me dies (especially my romances). In retrospect I should have played dudeShep (romance Ashley, let her die, romance someone else in ME2, let her die, romance Kaidan, kill him) but I shall have to press on as this, because Shepard is and will always be female to me. I've had moments looking at pictures of the entire squad and going "someone is missing... oh. Oh, it's missing femShep. That's why that dude looked so out of place..."
Well, point being, an hour or two into ME1, I set foot on the Citadel together with Kaidan and Ashley and... this pops out of Ashley's mouth. We are standing right next to a pair of salarians. I just... Ashley... this is why people think you're racist/whateveryouwanttocallitwhenit'saliens.
Shoot, did you play the Extended Cut ending? It came out last Tuesday. It makes the ending so much better.
@FoxyKat: I did, and it helped somewhat though I feel it brought in some new problems too. And the godchild still doesn't work in my opinion :I
EC: fixing surface problems but leaving core WTF that makes no sense problems alone because of "artistic integrity". Godchild is the problem, I totally agree. I'm going headcanon: he's a corrupted AI that had his own creator issues and created a heuristic that stated no organic or synthetic can live in harmony ever. 'Cause, you know, ART.
P.S. I love your Kaidan. He's just so cute! :D
@Guest: Yeah... something along those lines, I agree. His frustrating circle logic made me shoot him in the head, which uh... triggered the new ending XD I was very surprised indeed XD
And thank you :D
That's why I dislike Ashley XD Hairy space monkey with a big gun
Yeah, the Godchild still sucks.
In my head canon, I mostly pretend he doesnt exist and the crucible works as planned. Not original, but still better.
Or, if I go Super-Headcanon, the whole crucible doesnt exist. Shepard just rallys all allies and kicks some Reaper-Ass, because thats what she/he does!
Cookies for Quote-Finders ;)
I found the new ending the first time just for telling him to fuck off, and i loved it. But when I played the ending again, to get my destroy-ending, i shoot him just for fucks-sake, and had to play through the whole TIM-Scene again. At 2 o'clock in the morning, while I just wanted to sleep XD
Also, I had school the next day. Totally worth it
I got the feeling that the rejection ending was just a big FU to the people who complained about the ending given the fact that the cycle will just continue anyways. The control ending was weird and I'm expecting the Shepard reaper to go insane and restart the cycles in the hopes of protecting people for the greater good. I liked the destroy ending but did they have to leave the shepard breathing part at the end?! It's driving me crazy and still opens the possibility for another game or something even though it's supposed to be a trilogy:\...
@jay: Actually, the new ending is them giving the fans what they wanted. Sort of. I was one of the people (and I saw others) who in their reviews on the BSN requested a 'failure' ending. In other words, Shepard and all fail, reapers win, all goes black, cue Liara's recording being played warning the next cycle. End. Unfortunately they had to add that alternative stargazer bit, calling Shepard a hero who prevented further cycles, which, uh, contradicts Liara's 'we failed, please let this warning help you succeed' message.
@zenat: I assumed that the alternative stargazer bit occurred way into the future, after they had used Liara's recording to prepare.
The endings are better, but still feel wrong. At least with the new endings, Synthases feels awesome instead of just weird. Must be EDI's voiceover.
I'm just sticking with the Indoctrination Theory. The fanfic 'Mind Games' is my head canon.
@Alicia: That's a possibility, though I kind of feel that they have no real reason to call Shepard a hero then. Surely they have heroes of their own?
Synthesis. Dear lord, synthesis. The choice that the developers clearly feel is the best, and yet is morally unacceptable. I'm not going to rant, but... here is a link to someone else who has expressed it very well http://meronym.tumblr.com/post/26091655329/synthesis-a-fucking-abomination-of-the-human-ra ce-and
... can I, maybe, have a link to this fanfic? :D
I think the term for Ashley might be Xenophobic? Except Xeno's not specific enough to aliens....
@zenat: I posted this reply four times now and it hasn't shown up. So I've made an account, I'm Alicia.
For the alternate stargazer scene, Shepard died trying and provided the resources necessary for The Future to defeat the Reapers. They may well have heroes of their own but that doesn't mean they can't celebrate the old ones.
Also didn't Liara's recording include a section telling everyone that Shepard is awesome? :P
Synthesis itself is unacceptable, yes. I read the whole article and for the most part I agree. However, having the Reapers on your side contributing the knowledge of thousands of species would be amazing, and rocket their society forward like no ones business.
This article sums up my feelings about the endings pretty well: http://beefjack.com/news/how-bioware-missed-the-point-with-mass-effect-3-extended-cut/
Which is why I stick with Indoctrination Theory.

I'm thinking the term for Ashley is Speciest.
Holy bleep this is a long comment.
